How story downloading works
Native content resolution
We download the vertical file TikTok distributes for the story, at its original resolution (not the re-compressed version you see when playing it at full speed inside the stories feed).
Multi-story series
Many accounts publish 'series' of several short chapters. If the series is yours, or you have the creator's permission, you can save each chapter as a separate MP4 and keep it complete.
Story audio included
If the story uses a viral sound, music or narration, the full track travels inside the MP4. With the downloader's audio button you can also extract it separately, as with any video.
Short durations, instant download
Stories usually last 5-60 seconds, so the file weighs little (2-15 MB) and the download finishes almost instantly, even on slow mobile connections.

TikTok stories: what every saver should know
Where stories appear inside TikTok
Spotting them is easy: when an account has an active story, its avatar shows a colored ring around it — on the profile, in the comments and in the message inbox. Tapping the profile picture opens the story full-screen, and TikTok also slips stories into the 'For You' feed with a label that identifies them. If the avatar has no ring, that account has no story published right now and there's nothing to copy or download.
Story vs. feed video vs. pinned videos
A feed video stays published on the profile indefinitely, and anyone can rewatch it tomorrow or a year from now. Pinned or featured videos go a step further: the creator anchors them at the top of the profile so they're the first thing you see. A story is the opposite: deliberately ephemeral content that never lands on the profile grid and vanishes on its own when it expires. That's why the 'normal' video downloader works for the feed at any time, but with stories the clock sets the deadline.
How long does a story really live?
TikTok stories are shown for a limited period (typically 24 hours) and then disappear forever from the creator's profile. Unlike feed videos, they don't remain in any public archive: if you didn't download it in time, there's no way to recover it, not with our tool or any other.
Why they're processed 'like a normal video'
Technically, a story is a short vertical video hosted on the same TikTok CDN as feed videos. The only difference is that it's temporary, not the format. That's why our downloader works the same: it validates the URL, resolves the video file on the CDN and delivers it as MP4. We only process public stories; those from private accounts or limited to friends are not available, and we offer no way to access them.
The desktop trick for quick links
On mobile, tapping Share → Copy link gives you the ready URL. On the computer, the fastest way is to open the story, pause it and copy the URL from the browser bar: TikTok keeps it while the story is active. Then paste it here and you're done.
Story series: save your full season
Creators who publish story series (one chapter per day) watch them rotate or disappear when finished. If the series is yours, download each chapter the same day you publish it: by the end of the week you'll have the full season in your gallery, in order, ready to re-edit or republish. If the series belongs to another account, ask for permission before saving it.
Promotions and announcements from your own account
Many brands and businesses announce offers, giveaways or product demos only in stories. If you manage that account, saving the announcement as MP4 leaves you a record of the campaign (link, code, details) even after the story expires, useful for reports and for repeating what worked.
What you can do with what you download
Saving the story for personal use (watching offline, archiving, showing friends) is normal. Republishing it on your own account or monetizing it without the creator's permission isn't: the content still belongs to whoever published it, even if temporary. If you'll use it in your social media, ask permission or credit the source.
Save your own stories: TikTok won't always do it for you
If you're a creator, this is probably the most practical use of the downloader. TikTok doesn't guarantee your story stays saved on your device or your profile once it expires: if you didn't keep a copy when publishing, that footage can be lost. Downloading your own story's MP4 the same day leaves you a clean copy for your personal archive, for repurposing as a Short or Reel on another network, or for rescuing a clip you shot straight from the app's camera that exists nowhere else.
What if the link no longer works?
If the link errors out, there are three usual causes. The first and most common: the story expired — TikTok deleted the file from its CDN when the validity window ended, and the URL died with it. The second: the account is private, and its content was never available outside the app. The third: the creator deleted the story manually before the 24 hours were up, which they can do at any moment. In all three cases there are no retries possible; next time, download on the day it's published.

How do I download a TikTok story?
Just like a normal video: open the story, tap Share → Copy link, paste the URL on this page, press search and download the MP4. Stories use the same video infrastructure as feed posts, so the flow is identical and takes the same time.
Does the story download in full quality?
Yes, we get the file TikTok distributes for that story, with no extra compression on our side. The quality is what the creator recorded (usually vertical 9:16 at 720p or higher). Note: TikTok prioritizes speed for stories because of their ephemeral nature, so the resolution depends on the creator's upload — but we never degrade it.
Can I download stories that already expired?
No. When a story expires, TikTok deletes the file from its servers and the link stops resolving. There's no cache or public copy to access: our tool (and any other) only works with active stories. The golden rule: download the same day.
Can I download stories from a private account?
No. We only process public content. If the account is private, stories are only visible to approved followers inside the app and aren't available on TikTok's public servers. Downloading them would also violate the creator's privacy.
Can I download someone else's story?
Only if it's public and, for any use beyond watching it yourself, with the creator's permission. The story is still the work of whoever published it, even if it's temporary: reposting it, using it in an edit or monetizing it without authorization infringes their rights. When in doubt, message them directly and credit them if you share it.
Can I download my own stories?
Yes, and it's one of the most worthwhile uses. Publish the story, copy its link from your own profile with Share → Copy link and paste it here as you would with any video. You'll get the clean MP4 of your story for your personal archive or to repurpose on another platform. Do it the same day you publish it: once it expires, not even the author can recover it with external tools.
Is a story the same as a pinned video on the profile?
No. Profile videos (including the ones the creator pins or features at the top) stay published until they delete them, so you can download those at any time with the normal video downloader. A story, on the other hand, is temporary by design: you spot it by the colored ring around the avatar, it doesn't appear on the profile grid and it expires on its own. That expiry is exactly why this page exists.
Any difference from saving in the app?
The main difference is quality: when the app saves a story, it usually re-compresses the video. Our download delivers the file of any public story in its original quality, exactly as published, without re-encoding and without watermark.
Where is the MP4 saved on my phone?
In the browser's downloads folder: Chrome puts it in 'Downloads' (automatically visible in the gallery on Android), and Safari in the 'Files' app (iOS). From there you can move, share or organize it like any other video.
What do I do if the story link errors even though it's still active?
Try two things: 1) Re-copy the link from the app (sometimes the shared link loses parameters when pasted into a browser); 2) make sure the story hasn't rotated between copies (they last 24h, but some creators replace them earlier). If it still fails, the account usually has a regional restriction or the story was of an unsupported type.
