How to download a TikTok on iPhone in 3 steps

Copy the video link

With the video on screen, tap the Share arrow and choose Copy link. If the video came from a WhatsApp or iMessage thread, just long-press the URL and copy it: short vm.tiktok.com links work too.

Paste the link into TikSnap in Safari

Open Safari, go to TikSnap and long-press the search field until Paste appears. If Safari asks whether to allow pasting from TikTok, accept: that's the iOS clipboard privacy notice, not a security warning.

Download and pick a destination

Tap the HD video button. Safari will show a small dialog asking whether you want to download the file; confirm it and follow the progress with the downloads arrow in the address bar. From there you can open it and send it to Photos in one tap.

Safari is the browser that downloads best on iOS

On iPhone, Safari has a built-in download manager that saves files straight into Files and lets you share them to Photos in a tap. Chrome, Firefox and Edge for iOS run on Safari's engine but don't always expose that manager the same way, so the most predictable experience is with Safari.

The iCloud Drive Downloads folder

By default, Safari drops files into iCloud Drive → Downloads, so the same video also shows up on your Mac and iPad if you use the same account. If you'd rather keep them on the phone only, go to Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads and switch the destination to On My iPhone.

Save to Photos in one tap

From Safari's download list, tap the video to preview it, then the share button, then Save Video. It will appear in Recents and in the Videos album with the download date. The original file stays in Files until you delete it, so you can keep both copies or just one.

What changes in iOS 17 and iOS 18

Since iOS 17, the cross-app paste prompt appears the first time you copy from TikTok and paste into Safari; in Settings you can allow it permanently for TikTok and Safari. iOS 18 reorganizes the Photos app into collections instead of tabs: the downloaded video sits under Recents and under Media Types → Videos.

Automation with the Shortcuts app

With Apple's Shortcuts app you can build a flow that receives a link from the Share sheet, opens TikSnap with that link and leaves you one tap away from the download. No special permission is needed: the shortcut simply opens Safari with the URL, and the rest works exactly as if you did it by hand.

iPad: Split View and drag and drop

On iPad you can open TikTok and Safari side by side in Split View, drag the link across, and once downloaded drag the video from Files straight into an iMovie, Keynote or Final Cut for iPad project. It's the most comfortable way to use clips in presentations and edits.

What if the creator has disabled downloads?

The TikTok app only shows Save video when the creator has allowed it in their account settings, and that copy carries the logo and the username. TikSnap respects that decision just as it respects private accounts: the tool is designed to save your own videos in their clean version, and public content from other creators only when you have their permission. If the author doesn't want their video downloaded, the right answer is not to download it.

The download button does nothing on my iPhone

The cause is almost always that you're inside another app's in-app browser (for example, you opened TikSnap from a link in Instagram or Telegram). Those viewers have no download manager. Tap the compass icon or the three dots and choose Open in Safari; run the search again and the download prompt will appear normally.

I downloaded the video but can't find it

Check the downloads arrow in Safari's address bar first. If you've already dismissed it, open the Files app, go to Browse and look for the Downloads folder inside iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, depending on your setting. Remember that until you choose Save Video, the clip won't show up in the Photos app.

Changing where downloads are saved

Go to Settings, find Safari and open Downloads. You can pick iCloud Drive, On My iPhone or a specific folder you create, such as TikToks. You'll also find Remove Download List Items: set it to Manually if you want to keep a history of what you've downloaded.

Building a shortcut for the Share sheet

Open Shortcuts, create a new one and enable Show in Share Sheet, accepting only URLs as input. Add a Text action with TikSnap's address, then Combine Text or Replace Text to attach the incoming link, and finish with Open URLs. From then on, in TikTok you just tap Share, pick your shortcut and confirm the download in Safari.

Freeing space: iCloud versus local storage

TikTok videos in original quality are usually light, but if you download a lot it's worth deciding where they live. In Files, long-press a video and choose Remove Download so it stays in iCloud only without taking space on the iPhone; it re-downloads when you need it. If iCloud storage is what's tight, save to the On My iPhone folder instead.

Using the video in iMovie, CapCut or Clips

Once the clip is in Photos, any iOS editor imports it as if you had recorded it yourself. Because it has no overlays, you can trim it, chain it with other clips or quote it in a presentation without a username covering part of the frame. If you only need the sound, the same results page has a button to download the track as MP3.

Responsible use of downloaded content

Downloading a video to watch offline, study it or keep it as a reference is reasonable personal use. Re-uploading it as your own, cropping out the author's credit or monetizing it on another platform is not. The video still belongs to whoever made it; if you plan to reuse it publicly, ask for permission and credit the creator.

FAQ about downloading TikTok on iPhone

Do I really not need to install any app?

Correct. TikSnap is a web page that runs in the Safari that already comes with your iPhone or iPad. No apps, configuration profiles or extensions to install, and no jailbreak. You copy the link, paste it and download.

Can I use Chrome or Firefox on iPhone instead of Safari?

Every iOS browser uses Safari's engine underneath, but download handling differs between them and between versions. For the download prompt to appear and the file to reliably end up in Files, we recommend Safari. If an alternative browser doesn't show the download, open the same page in Safari.

Does the video go to Photos or Files?

Safari saves it first to the Downloads folder in the Files app. From the download list or from Files, tap the video, hit share and choose Save Video so it also appears in Photos. The two copies are independent: you can delete the one in Files and keep the one in Photos.

Is downloading the video legal? What about the creator's rights?

Downloading a public video for personal, private use is considered reasonable use in most countries. What's not allowed is reusing the content as your own, distributing it without authorization or monetizing it: the rights stay with the creator. If you're going to publish it elsewhere, ask for permission and credit the author. TikSnap grants no license over the content.

Does it work with videos from private accounts?

No. Only videos the creator has published publicly can be processed. Videos from private accounts, those set to Only me, or those that require following the account to view are not available in the tool, and there's no option to get around that restriction. It's a deliberate design choice to respect every user's privacy.

What quality does the downloaded video have on iPhone?

The same it was published in on TikTok. If the creator uploaded it in 1080p, you'll receive that file; if they uploaded it in 720p, it can't be improved because no higher version exists on the servers. The file carries neither the watermark nor the username TikTok adds to its native saves.

Why does Safari ask whether to allow paste?

It's the iOS clipboard protection: since iOS 16, the system warns when an app tries to read something you copied in another. Accept and the link will paste. If you don't want to see the prompt every time, go to Settings, open Safari, find Paste from Other Apps and set it to Allow.

Can I download photo carousels or only videos?

Both. If the link points to an image post, the page will show each photo separately so you can save it to Photos with a long press and Save Image. For videos you have the MP4 button in original quality and, next to it, the option to download just the audio as MP3.

Does the process drain battery or data?

Only what the file weighs. There's no conversion on the device and no background process: Safari downloads the ready-made MP4 and saves it. You can do it on cellular data or wait for Wi-Fi if you'd rather save your plan.

Does it work on iPad the same as on iPhone?

Yes, the flow is identical. On iPad you can also take advantage of Split View to have TikTok and Safari side by side, and the download manager appears in the top bar. Videos land in Files and can be dragged into other apps like iMovie or Keynote straight from that folder.
